Arizona officials warned on Apr. 15 that a new wave of sophisticated scams is targeting drivers with fake traffic ticket violations, according to a recent alert.

The warning comes as scammers increasingly use convincing tactics to trick residents into providing personal and financial information. The issue is significant because it puts Arizona drivers at risk of identity theft and financial loss.

Authorities have identified several warning signs in these scams. Scammers often claim to represent non-existent agencies such as the “Arizona Ministry of Communications” or the “Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles.” In reality, Arizona uses the term “Motor Vehicle Division” (MVD), not DMV. Many scam messages refer to toll violations, but Arizona does not have toll roads, and some cite legal codes that do not exist in state law. Officials say legitimate government communications will never demand immediate payment through text messages or QR codes, nor will they send suspicious links—some containing “azdot.gov” but redirecting users to fraudulent domains ending in .wang, .xyz, or .top.

Residents are urged not to click any links in suspicious messages or provide any personal information or payment details. The recommendation is to delete such messages immediately and report them to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office or forward texts to 7726 (SPAM). If someone has already clicked a link or provided information, they should contact their bank right away and file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office. Drivers can verify legitimate concerns by visiting azmvdnow.gov or going directly to an MVD office.

The City of Bisbee has evolved into a multicultural community that values its history and diverse geography according to the official website. The city aims for a safe environment while encouraging economic growth and innovation according to the official website. Bisbee operates under a Council-Manager form of government where policy decisions are made by elected officials who appoint a City Manager according to the official website.

Bisbee gained recognition as the ‘Queen of the Copper Camps’ due its extensive mining history spanning nearly one hundred years according to the official website. It remains centered in Cochise County amid areas rich with natural and historic significance according to the official website. Its Council-Manager structure was established through its charter adopted in 1902 according to the official website.

As scam techniques continue evolving, authorities urge vigilance among residents when responding to unsolicited communications about legal matters.
