U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales Port of Entry seized more than 120 pounds of methamphetamine in two separate incidents, according to a March 24 announcement.

The seizures are significant as they demonstrate ongoing efforts by CBP to intercept illegal drugs entering the United States. These actions aim to protect communities from dangerous narcotics and support broader law enforcement initiatives.

According to the agency, on March 10, officers working at the Mariposa Crossing discovered nearly 44 pounds of methamphetamine concealed in a 2007 Acura RL. The drugs were found after a scan with a nonintrusive inspection system led to a closer physical examination, which revealed 32 packages hidden in the back seat. Both the narcotics and vehicle were seized, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver and began a criminal investigation.

The following day, CBP officers at the Deconcini Crossing seized more than 76 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a false floor compartment of a 2019 Volkswagen Polo. Officers used similar scanning technology before uncovering 70 packages containing suspected drugs during their inspection. The narcotics and vehicle were taken into custody, with Homeland Security Investigations arresting the driver for further investigation.

Acting Port Director Jose Acuna said, “Our frontline officers’ ability to apply training, inspection experience, and technology allowed them to zero in and take down a couple of significant drug loads. Our streets are safer thanks to the dedication of our CBP officers.”

CBP describes itself as America’s frontline—the nation’s largest law enforcement organization tasked with protecting borders on land, air, and sea while enforcing lawful travel and trade.
