Cochise County Elections announced on Apr. 14 that important deadlines are approaching for the Consolidated Election scheduled for May 19, 2026. The election will include a recall measure in the City of Benson and charter amendments in the City of Douglas.

The upcoming election is significant for residents as it gives them an opportunity to participate in local governance decisions, such as recalls and changes to city charters. Voters who need more information about specific ballot measures are encouraged to contact their respective city jurisdictions directly.

Key dates include a Logic & Accuracy Test at the Cochise County Elections Department in Bisbee on Wednesday, April 15 at 2:00 PM; the voter registration deadline on Monday, April 20; early voting beginning Wednesday, April 22; and Election Day itself on Tuesday, May 19.

Eligible residents not yet registered can register online or update their information through Arizona’s voter registration portal. Assistance is available from the Cochise County Recorder’s Office or through its website. Additional details about the election can be found on the Cochise County Elections website.

Recent educational data provides context about challenges facing students in Cochise County schools. According to the Arizona Department of Education, during the 2022-23 school year, approximately seventy percent of students in grades three through eight did not pass the mathematics section of state assessments (AASA), while seventy-six percent of high schoolers failed math on the ACT exam. English scores were also low: sixty-two point four percent of younger students and sixty-five percent of high schoolers did not pass their respective English assessments.

However, there have been some improvements reported for the current academic year. Twenty-seven percent of high schoolers passed mathematics on this year’s ACT exam and twenty-eight point five percent of third through eighth graders passed math on this year’s AASA assessment according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Cochise County officials encourage all eligible voters to review upcoming deadlines and ensure their registration is current ahead of Election Day.
