Cochise County has released a Request For Qualifications (RFQ) to find a firm that will provide design-build criteria architect services for its New Jail Project. The RFQ is available on the countyās procurement website.
The selected vendor must be an architectural or engineering firm with experience as a design-build criteria architect for criminal justice or detention facilities. Only one vendor will be chosen through this process.

While the county moves forward with infrastructure projects like the new jail, educational performance in Cochise County remains a concern. During the 2022-23 school year, 70% of students in grades 3 through 8 did not pass the mathematics section of the AASA exam and 62.4% failed the English section according to data from the Arizona Department of Education (https://www.azed.gov/). Among high schoolers, 76% failed the mathematics section and 65% failed English on the ACT during that same period (https://www.azed.gov/).
Recent figures show some improvement: In the 2023-24 school year, 27% of high school students passed mathematics on the ACT and 28.5% of students in grades 3 through 8 passed mathematics on the AASA (https://www.azed.gov/).
