Haven of Safford received an overall rating of 2 out of 5 in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows. This rating falls below the statewide nursing home average in Arizona, which stood at 3.4.

The care center operated with 106 available beds, which is eight fewer than the state average in Arizona for the same period. On average, the facility cared for 73.8 residents during the quarter.

Haven of Safford did not receive any fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the country’s older adult population is on the rise while younger populations continue to decrease. From 2020 to 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, whereas those under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult population in the United States has surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study found that almost half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million—may need long-term services and supports. The same study anticipates that over a third will eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
