Pima Unified School District announced on March 10 the adoption of the Standard Response Protocol from the “I Love U Guys” Foundation as its district-wide emergency response plan.

The district said this move is part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and prepared learning environment for all students and staff. The Standard Response Protocol provides a clear and consistent set of actions for different types of emergencies, using common language to help staff and students respond quickly during drills or real incidents.

Throughout the school year, students and staff will participate in drills covering five key actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Information explaining each type of response will be made available to help families understand what these procedures mean for students during both drills and actual emergencies.

The first Lockdown Drill using the new protocol is scheduled for March 12. Staff will review procedures with students beforehand so they know what to expect and how to respond appropriately.

The district stated that its goal is “to ensure that everyone in our school community understands the procedures and feels confident in how we respond to different situations.” Community members are encouraged to contact the school office with any questions about the new protocols.
