The Santa Cruz County Health Services Department has announced a public hearing scheduled for June 17, 2025, regarding proposed changes to the county’s health services fee schedule. The hearing will provide an opportunity for the Board of Supervisors to receive input from the public on both the modified and additional fees being considered.
The department stated, “NOTICE IS HEARBY GIVEN that the Santa Cruz County Health Services Department will hold a public hearing on June 17, 2025 to present Modified and additional fees to the existing fee schedule for Santa Cruz County Health Services. The Board of Supervisors will hear any pro/con to the fee schedule adjustment. The proposed fee schedule can be viewed at https://www.santacruzcountyaz.gov/DocumentCenter/View/21951/Proposed-Amended-and-Additional-Fees-5-23-25?bidId=.”
This announcement comes as educational performance in Santa Cruz County remains a concern. During the 2022-23 school year, more than 74% of students in grades three through eight did not pass the mathematics section of the AASA standardized test, while over 84% of high school students failed the math portion of the ACT exam according to data from the Arizona Department of Education (https://www.azed.gov/). Similarly, about two-thirds of students in grades three through eight did not pass the English section of AASA, and approximately 72% of high schoolers failed English on the ACT (https://www.azed.gov/).
Recent results from the 2023-24 school year show that about 18% of high schoolers passed mathematics on the ACT, and nearly one-quarter—23.6%—of students in grades three through eight passed math on AASA (https://www.azed.gov/).
The proposed changes to health service fees can be reviewed by members of the public online ahead of the hearing.
