Western states are leading the country in economic momentum, according to a new report.
State Policy Reports' Index of State Economic Momentum takes a quarterly look at measures of personal income growth, as well as employment and population growth, to establish a ranking of each state's economic momentum. In the most-recent report, Nevada took the top spot for economic mobility, followed by Utah, Washington, Arizona, Idaho and Colorado.
The six states were the only ones to score higher than 1 percent above the national average on the report's composite metric of personal income, employment and population growth. Washington led the way in personal income growth, while Nevada scored highest in employment and population growth.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey celebrated the rankings.
"This is a testament to a talented workforce, strong leaders, innovative entrepreneurs and business-friendly policies that continue to drive Arizona's economic momentum," Ducey said in a statement following the report's release.
