State Rep. David Cook (R-Casa Grande) has announced he is looking for funding for the Tonto Creek crossing bridge.
Cook said in a December news release he plans to introduce legislation that would provide funding for the bridge.
Cook's legislation will authorize $20 million from the general fund for the state's Department of Transportation to construct a bridge at the Bar X crossing in Gila County in the Tonto Basin, the release states.
"Like all Arizonans I deeply mourn the tragic loss of life from recent floodwaters in the Tonto Basin," Cook said. "Residents and travelers in the area need to have safe and reliable passage when dangerous flooding occurs."
Two children were swept to their deaths by Tonto Creek floodwaters in November
Cook said the crossing bridge would be a priority during the upcoming session.
