Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) is celebrating the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for awarding more than $400 million in grants under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program (SSVF).
The grants aim to end veteran homelessness. The VA said it will start distributing the funds to various organizations on Oct. 1.
SSVF funding provides thousands of veterans and their families with pathways to case management and other assistance. The VA said the funds will rapidly house veterans. The funds will also prevent veterans from losing their homes.
McSally praised veterans, calling them heroes and made a statement about the inadequate housing for people who served the country faithfully.
“Far too many of our veterans lack adequate housing,” McSally said in a press release. “We owe it to these heroes to ensure they have a roof over their heads. As a fellow veteran, I am grateful to see these much-needed grants go to Arizona’s community partners who are committed to ending veterans’ homelessness.”
