Long-term health care facilities in Arizona have been hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In July, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey started taking steps to get nursing homes reopened and he formed the Task Force On Long-Term Care. According to a press release from the governor’s office, the task force developed recommendations on how to deal with visitation at the long-term health care facilities.

On Aug. 25, the task released its recommendations and they were adopted by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) three days later.

The ADHS said there are two components to resuming visitation at long-term facilities. The first involves the quality of the mitigation strategies implemented to combat the coronavirus. The second involves the level of spread in different parts of the community. The ADHS said the spread can be divided into a number of categories.

They are minimal, moderate and substantial levels of community spread.
