Cochise College issued the following announcement on Oct. 1.
The Cochise College soccer team traveled to Santos Soccer Complex to face the Gateway Geckos for their second conference match.
The first half did not offer any goals; however, the Apaches controlled the game with the majority of the possession and numerous shots on goal. The second half continued with high possession and shots from Cochise, which included two goals. The first goal was scored in the 47th minute when Sofia Gallegos (Chihuahua, Mexico). She received a pass from Ivana Siles (La Paz, Bolivia) and blasted the ball from 18 yards out to make it 1-0. Cochise looked to add more goals, but they did not find the back of the net until the 85th minute. Maria Azarias (Santa Catarina, Brazil) received a driven cross from Sofia Gallegos that she struck home on a half volley to make it a 2-0 final for the Apaches.
The Apaches out shot the Geckos with 22 shots on goal to 5, and they recorded their second shutout in the row.
The win puts the Apaches’ record to 5-2-1, and 1-0-1 in the conference.
Up next, Cochise will host the Glendale Gauchos on Saturday, Oct. 2 for their third conference game of the season. The match starts at 3 p.m. and took place on the Cochise College Douglas Campus.
