Cochise College issued the following announcement on Oct. 5.
The Cochise Apaches hosted the Glendale Gauchos for their third conference match.
The Apaches scored nine goals against the Gauchos.
The first half offered five goals. Sofia Gallegos (Chihuahua, Mexico) opened the score in the 14th minute after receiving a pass from Megan Castricum (Castricum, Netherlands). A few minutes later, in the 22nd minute, Gallegos added her second goal of the day after an assist from Jenally Barco (Douglas, AZ). The Apaches added three more goals in the first half. In the 26th minute, Kayla Reynaud (Las Cruces, NM) headed a long ball from Daniela Gomez (Cali, Colombia) over the Gauchos keeper, making it 3-0. Jaclyn Madrid (Sierra Vista, AZ) got on the scoreboard after scoring in the 33rd minute. The deflection came from a corner kick by Maria Azarias (Santa Catarina, Brazil). Azarias scored herself a few minutes later when she stole a ball from the Gauchos’ defender and made it 5-0 for the Apaches.
Cochise Soccer added four more goals in the second half. Kayla Reynaud scored one more goal in the 59th minute when she fired a shot from 25 yards out. Jaclyn Madrid found her unguarded in the middle of the field. Maria Azarias added three more goals for herself. The first one was in the 64th minute, a redirected cross by Kayla Reynaud, and then in the 69th minute, assisted again by Reynaud. Azarias added the game’s final goal in the 77th minute after Kayla Reynaud crossed a ball that was deflected through the Gauchos goalkeeper’s legs by Mariah Miranda (Las Cruces, NM) and tapped in by Majhu.
The Apaches outshot the Gauchos with 27 shots on goal to one, and they recorded their third shutout in the row.
The win puts the Apaches’ record to 6-2-1 and 2-0-1 in the conference.
Cochise Soccer will be on the road for the next three matches. First, they will face the NJCAA D2 Champions from Phoenix College on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. Later in the week, the Apaches will travel to Prescott for a rescheduled game against Yavapai and conclude the week on Saturday against Chandler-Gilbert.
