Basketball

Cochise College issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.

The Apaches move to 12-1 in ACCAC play and sit atop the conference.

The Cochise College men’s basketball team used a strong defensive effort to jump on the home-standing CAC Vaqueros enabling the Apaches to sweep CAC on the season series.

The Apaches were able to lead for basically all 40 minutes of the contest. Cochise led by 42-32 at the intermission and pushed the lead to 17 points late in the second half.

Cochise was led by returning Johnny Garcia, who tallied 28 points and six three-point field goals on the night.

Cochise is now 21-2 overall and 12-1 in ACCAC play.

“Coach Hopkins really had the Vaqueros well scouted, and we understood their personnel, said Cochise Head Coach Jerry Carrillo. “Johnny G stepped up big tonight with great perimeter shooting and sparked us off the bench.”
