Cochise College issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.
The Cochise College women’s basketball team traveled to Coolidge, Arizona, to take on the Vaqueras of Central Arizona College. The Vaqueras deemed it a tall task for the Apaches as they demolished the guard-composed team on the boards. The Vaqueras out rebounded the Apaches by 19 and could capitalize on many second-chance shot opportunities. The women’s basketball team could not close the rebounding gap, which resulted in Central pulling away with the 21 point win.
At half time, the Apaches scored only 22 points to the Vaqueras’ 45. Although the Apaches scored an impressive 54 points in the second half, it was not enough to overshadow the 23 point deficit from the first half.
Double-digit point totals from sophomores Ajda Licina (16 points), Tatjana Tatar (19 points), and Corina Suarez Tudela (26 points) were not enough to grant the Apaches the victory. Sophomore Aja Phoumiphat leads the Apaches in rebounds and led the team last night with 13 total rebounds.
