Schoolaward2

Cochise College issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.

Four Cochise College students have been named to the 2022 All Arizona Academic Team. One plans to start an agriculture business. Another wants to become a psychiatric nurse. One has her sights set on a career as a veterinarian. One seeks to become an electrical engineer. And all of them give back to the community and college by volunteering.

Jose Avechuco, Kaelyn Edwards, Lauren Fullen and Victor Oviedo received scholarships from the Arizona Board of Regents to help them take the next step toward achieving their goals. They are among 78 community college students from across the state who earned full tuition waivers to complete bachelor’s degrees at one of Arizona’s public universities.

The scholarships are part of the All Arizona Academic Team program that recognizes community college students for their leadership, outstanding academic performance and community service.

The students will receive the waivers and be honored in a virtual celebration on Thursday, Feb. 24 at  1 p.m. via YouTube at messacc.edu/live , where family, friends, and community college representatives can celebrate their achievements. There will be interactive components leading up to the event and during. Please use #CochiseCollege and #AllAZScholars on Twitter and Instagram to be a part of the live social wall for viewing that honorees and guests will be able to see during the event. Once the event starts, there will be a live chat area to provide congratulatory remarks, kind words, and support, as well as emojis! This year’s keynote speaker will be Carmen (Moreno) Maldonado, Cochise College 2012 alumna and All Arizona Academic Team scholarship recipient.

Students nominated are reviewed first by business, civic, education and government leaders and then judged a second time by representatives of various federal agencies and education associations. They are ranked and placed accordingly on first, second and third academic teams. In addition to the tuition waiver, each received a cash scholarship from the Cochise College Foundation for $1,000 for first-team members, $750 for second-team members, and $500 for third-team members. Honorees also received a certificate and commemorative medallion.
