Cochise women finish first at UA rodeo

Cochise College issued the following announcement on Mar. 8.

The Cochise College women’s rodeo team won the University of Arizona spring rodeo on March 5.

The Apaches scored 415.5 points, well ahead of second-place Central Arizona with 322. Chenoa VandeStouwe won the Women’s All-Around, followed by Jessi Jane Portenier for second.

Portenier won second place in goat tying, with teammate Chenoa VandeStouwe placed third and Laynee Gregersen was fifth. In breakaway roping, VandeStou finished second and Maddee Doerr eighth. In barrel racing, Portenier took sixth.

Lucas Segovia placed fourth in team roping for the men’s team, and Garrett Hershberger finished in ninth place for tie-down roping.

The Cochise women are sitting in first place in the Grand Canyon Region, and the men are in fifth. Next, the Apaches head to a rodeo at Central Arizona College in Casa Grande on March 12-13.
