Homeowners living in substandard housing conditions can now apply for emergency repairs under a City of Sierra Vista program funded by Community Development Block Grant dollars.
The Emergency Home Repair Program is open to owner-occupied Sierra Vista households that meet Department of Housing and Urban Development low and moderate-income qualifications. Eligible repairs are limited to issues affecting habitability of the home such as: a lack of running water, electricity, or heating/cooling; leaking water lines, gas lines, or fixtures; or other deficiencies that pose an immediate safety risk. Accessibility modifications for the elderly or disabled are also eligible.
Each household can receive a general maximum of $10,000 in assistance under the program currently authorized for this round of federal funding, which ends when all $50,000 of the allotted grant funds have been spent
“This program aids homeowners who are struggling with serious issues with their house and may not have the resources to cover repairs on their own,” Community Development Director Matt McLachlan says. “We hope to provide improved safety and quality of life for homeowners who need it most.”
