On Wednesday, United States Senator Mark Kelly paid a visit to Douglas to meet with City of Douglas officials and local business owners to discuss the new commercial port of entry and the city’s plans for future growth. In the meeting, city manager, Ana Urquijo, gave a presentation of Douglas’ Vision 2032 that outlines Mayor and Council’s policy priorities over the next ten years.
Water, wastewater, and broadband are at the forefront of Douglas’ priorities, especially considering the needs of the new port of entry. The presentation also highlighted the city’s efforts to revitalize downtown and alluded to the need for a hefty investment in street repairs.
During the discussion, city officials focused on the challenges that come with securing funding for these important infrastructure projects. Senator Kelly offered his continued partnership and brainstormed on ways we can work together to bring federal resources to Douglas that will improve water, wastewater, and broadband infrastructure as well as to build new roads and create more jobs.
