With a victory over Paradise Valley and Yavapai falling short against Scottsdale Community College, the Lady Apaches soccer team has punched their ticket to the 2022 NJCAA Region I title game. Last night, Cochise College defeated PVCC 4-2 in Phoenix, AZ led by Daniela Gomez, Kayla Reynaud, Paula Gonzalez, and Dayana Gonzalez, who each had a goal during the contest. The Lady Apaches came out strong with their offense making 2 goals off of 10 shots in the first half, and 2 more goals off of 4 shots in the second half. Samantha Renteria was the lone goalkeeper for yesterday’s match managing to save one of the 3 shots on goal by PVCC.
The 4-2 victory gave Cochise hope as they waited patiently for the result of the Yavapai/Scottsdale contest. The 2-1 Yavapai loss to Scottsdale placed the Lady Apaches in the driver’s seat for a date with Arizona Western for the NJCAA Region I championship game. Cochise Women’s Soccer travels to Yuma, AZ to take on the Matadors on Friday, October 28th for a 7:00pm kickoff. The winner of the Region I title game will have the opportunity to host the District I Championship game on their home field, with the opportunity to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament.
