After ten months of supply chain challenges and delivery delays, the Public Works Department, with the aid of ADOT crews, installed a new control cabinet for traffic lights at the intersection of 10th Street and San Antonio Avenue. The new state-of-the-art equipment functions as the computer running the signal programming.
The installation of this state-of-the-art traffic control cabinet comes as the City of Douglas prepares to plan smart city initiatives. The Alliance for Innovation defines smart cities as cities of the future; taking advantage of technology and information systems, smart cities address civic problems with data-driven approaches. Incorporating smart technology throughout the city will also position the city for economic growth and development.
More traffic light control cabinets will be replaced in the future as existing equipment ages and becomes obsolete. According to city officials, this is one area where funding opportunities may become available through various federal grant programs. The City of Douglas would like to thank ADOT for their help and support with the project.
