The Sierra Vista Historical Society presented a donation of $100,000 to the City of Sierra Vista to renovate and update the Henry F. Hauser Museum at Thursday’s regular City Council Meeting.
The funds will be used to purchase new display cases, multimedia components, updated flooring and lighting, display fabrication, and more. The improvements will make the museum more accessible, educational, and engaging to visitors.
The donation money was provided from the historical society’s Arizona Community Foundation fund, which was set up in 2012 with the purpose of outfitting a new museum. With that original motivation in mind, most updated components will be designed to be transferable should a new museum be built in the future.
“The Sierra Vista Historical Society has always been dedicated to helping support the museum,” SVHS President Marta Messmer said, in a press release earlier this week. “With this donation, the society reaffirms that commitment.”
The historical society’s youngest board member, 28-year-old Evan Messmer, presented a ceremonial check to Sierra Vista Mayor Rick Mueller on Thursday during the mayor’s final City Council meeting as mayor.
Thanks so much to the Sierra Vista Historical Society for this remarkable contribution to our community
