College plans capital projects in the year ahead

Planning 1000

The Cochise College plan to expand the First Responders Academy includes three phases starting with the program moving to the Sierra Vista Campus in Fall 2023 and remodeling the 600 Building to become a Law Enforcement Building.

Then construction for a driving track will begin on January 3, 2023, and will be located east of the Sierra Vista Fire Department Station 3 at 675 Giulio Cesare Avenue. Through an intergovernmental agreement between the City of Sierra Vista and the college, the 4.8-acre driving track will be built on city property.

The driving track will be used for training in the First Responders Academy and Commercial Driver’s License certification program. Completion is anticipated for July 2023.

“Thanks to our partnership with the City of Sierra Vista, building a driving track was made possible,” J.D. Rottweiler, Ph.D., Cochise College President, said. “The driving track is part of the first phase of our 2023 capital projects. This investment reflects the college’s long-time commitment to accessible education, meaningful careers and the communities we serve.”

Later phases and updates will be announced and can be found at www.cochise.edu.
