Graham County schools: Which ethnic group was the most represented in 2021-22 school year?

The majority of students in Graham County schools were White in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Of the 6,829 students attending Graham County schools, 50.9% were White. Latino students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 36.7% of Graham County students.

In the previous school year, White students still were the most common group in Graham County, representing 51.6% of the student body.

Thatcher Middle School had the most even distribution of races among the county schools, which included 50.9% of Latino students, 44.5% of White students, and 1.9% of Multi-racial or non-Hispanic students.

In the 2021-22 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county increased 4.7% when compared to the previous year.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor markets for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.

WalletHub claimed Arizona’s school system ranked among the worst across U.S. for class size, performance, funding, safety, and instructors’ credentials.
