On February 7, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the primary annual National Ambient Air Quality Standard for fine particulates (PM2.5) from 12.0 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) to 9.0 µg/m3. As a result, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is developing its proposed boundary recommendations describing the geographic extent of attainment, nonattainment, or unclassifiable areas of the state with respect to the revised annual PM2.5 standard.
