Which Gila County district enrolled most students in 2023-24 school year

Payson Unified District had the highest enrollment among Gila County districts, welcoming 2,283 students during the 2023-24 academic year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 53.7% of them were boys, and 46.3% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were white, representing 63.9% of the Payson Unified District total enrollment.

Among the eight districts in Gila County, Globe Unified District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,674 students, while San Carlos Unified District welcomed 1,417 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Payson Unified District roughly covers schools within Gila County and has a main office in Payson.

In the previous school year, Payson Unified District also had the highest number of students among Gila County districts.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor marks for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.

Additionally, WalletHub claimed Arizona's school system ranked among the worst across U.S. for class size, performance, funding, safety, and instructors' credentials.
