State Representative Gail Griffin, who chairs the House Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee, has issued a statement regarding the Democrats' rural groundwater proposal. Griffin emphasized the challenges faced by rural Arizona in managing groundwater resources and highlighted efforts by Republicans to address these issues.

"In 2023, House and Senate Republicans launched a Joint Legislative Water Committee to address groundwater challenges and find solutions that work for rural areas," Griffin said. She mentioned various initiatives proposed by Republicans in 2024 aimed at improving water management in rural regions.

Griffin criticized the Democrats' recent 87-page proposal on rural groundwater, claiming it aligns with "the same anti-growth agenda radical environmentalists" have promoted since 2020. She argued that the proposal would harm rural economies through measures such as mandatory groundwater cuts and new regulations imposed by unelected councils.

The statement further outlined Republican efforts to introduce over 20 measures focused on conserving groundwater and increasing stormwater recharge. According to Griffin, these efforts aim to provide immediate solutions for domestic wells and gather critical data needed for informed decision-making.

Griffin concluded by expressing a commitment to collaborating with lawmakers and stakeholders to develop policies that support rural Arizona while advancing innovative water supply solutions. "It’s time to put politics aside and pass real solutions for rural Arizona," she said.

A comprehensive analysis of the Democrats’ proposal is available for review.

Gail Griffin represents Legislative District 19 in the Arizona House of Representatives, covering parts of Greenlee, Graham, Cochise, eastern Pima, and Santa Cruz Counties.
