On March 13, 2025, Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva of Arizona passed away. He was serving his term after being elected in the 2024 general election to represent Arizona’s 7th congressional district. This has led to the need for a special election to fill the vacancy.

According to Arizona Revised Statutes § 16-222, a special election is mandated when such a vacancy occurs. Consequently, Governor Hobbs announced that a special primary election will take place on July 15, 2025, followed by a special general election on September 23, 2025. The winner of this general election will occupy the Congressional District 7 (CD7) seat for the remainder of the term until January 2027.

The district includes Cochise, Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, and Yuma counties. Voters can verify their congressional district online.
