State Representative Gail Griffin, Chair of the House Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee, has announced that Republican lawmakers are advancing legislation to address water issues in Arizona. These efforts aim to increase the state's water supplies, secure its water future, and reduce groundwater use across urban and rural areas.
Griffin highlighted the work being done in suburban areas such as Buckeye, Queen Creek, and Sun City. She said that Republicans are "fighting to preserve the American Dream of homeownership while protecting Arizona’s water resources." The legislation supports policies that conserve water and enable new housing development to prevent economic losses and make housing more affordable.
The bills include HB2094 through HB2568 by Griffin, which address various aspects of land development and water conservation. Additionally, SB1114 through SB1611 by Dunn and Shope focus on reducing permit requirements and improving demand calculations for builders.
In Pinal County, additional bills like HB2753 by Martinez and SB1616 by Shope have been introduced to allow participation in new water rules and raise funds for critical supplies. In rural counties such as Mohave, Cochise, Yavapai, and La Paz, Republicans have sponsored bills aimed at addressing domestic wells, conserving water, increasing local control, obtaining critical data, and expanding groundwater recharge efforts.
Representative Griffin expressed her willingness to discuss these legislative measures with the Governor: "I would be happy to sit down with the Governor to go through each of my bills one-by-one."
Gail Griffin represents Legislative District 19 in Arizona's House of Representatives. She also serves as Chairman of the House Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee.
