Cochise College issued the following announcement on Sept. 23.
Cochise College hosted the NJCAA D2 National Champions from Phoenix College at the CYR Complex in Sierra Vista.
The Apaches were looking to bounce back after a loss against Mesa, but they knew it would not be an easy task to beat the Bears. Phoenix College showed their attacking power in the first half, which resulted in four goals on the Apaches’ net. The game’s first goal was scored in the 11th minute, followed by goals in the 19th, 35th, and 44th minutes. The Apaches struggled to connect the passes and were not effective in the final third of the field.
After a half-time break, the Bears continued their efforts to add more goals when in the 47th minute Ariana Leamons added her second goal of the game and made it 5:0. The Apaches regrouped and started to compete and create goal-scoring opportunities. In the 62nd minute, Maria Azarias (Santa Catarina, Brazil) received a pass from Jenally Barco (Douglas, AZ) on top of the 18-yard box and made it final 5-1.
The loss puts the Apaches’ record to 4-2.
Up next, Cochise Soccer will travel on Wednesday, Sept. 29, to Phoenix, Ariz., to face Gateway CC at 6 p.m.
