There were 1,517 students enrolled in Greenlee County Morenci Unified District schools in 2022-23 school year

Morenci Unified District had the highest enrollment among Greenlee County districts, welcoming 1,517 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Out of the total students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.3% of them were boys, and 47.7% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Latino, representing 63.4% of the Morenci Unified District total enrollment.

Among the four districts in Greenlee County, Duncan Unified District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 395 students.

Morenci Unified District roughly covers schools within Greenlee County and has a main office in Morenci.

In the previous school year, Morenci Unified District also had the highest number of students among Greenlee County districts.

In 2022 Arizona had roughly one teacher for every 19 students, compared to the national average of one teacher for 16 students. Teachers handling a higher number of students was found to have negative consequences for students' school performance.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor marks for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.
