Enrollment at Nogales Unified District schools increased by 3.3% compared to previous school year

There were 5,691 students enrolled in Nogales Unified District schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3.3% more than the 5,507 in the previous year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Out of the total students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.7% of them were boys, and 49.3% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Latino, representing 99.2% of the Nogales Unified District total enrollment.

Nogales Unified District roughly covers schools within Santa Cruz County and has a main office in Nogales.

Among the 11 schools in Nogales Unified District, Nogales High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,797 students in the 2022-23 school year.

WalletHub claimed Arizona’s school system ranked among the worst across U.S. for class size, performance, funding, safety, and instructors’ credentials.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor marks for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.
