Sonoita Elementary District Education: 43 Latino students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 43 Latino students enrolled in Sonoita Elementary District schools in the 2022-23 school year, 10.3% more than the previous year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Data showed that Sonoita Elementary District welcomed 149 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Latino students comprised 28.9% of the student body to be the least represented ethnicity in the district.

Sonoita Elementary District roughly covers schools within Santa Cruz County and has a main office in Elgin.

Elgin Elementary School was the only school in the district which enrolled Latino students, welcoming 43 students in the 2022-23 school year.

WalletHub claimed Arizona’s school system ranked among the worst across U.S. for class size, performance, funding, safety, and instructors’ credentials.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor markets for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.
