Greenlee County Districts: Morenci Unified District schools welcomed most students in 2023-24 school year

Morenci Unified District had the highest enrollment among Greenlee County districts, welcoming 1,552 students during the 2023-24 academic year, according to the Arizona Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 51.3% of them were boys, and 48.7% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were Latino, representing 63.6% of the Morenci Unified District total enrollment.

Among the three districts in Greenlee County, Duncan Unified District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 375 students, while Blue Elementary District welcomed 13 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Morenci Unified District roughly covers schools within Greenlee County and has a main office in Morenci.

In the previous school year, Morenci Unified District also had the highest number of students among Greenlee County districts.

A 2023 study from Scholaroo.com ranked Arizona last out of all U.S. states in terms of educational success, giving the state poor marks for school quality, student success, and teacher-to-student ratio.

Additionally, WalletHub claimed Arizona's school system ranked among the worst across U.S. for class size, performance, funding, safety, and instructors' credentials.
