Arizona Cochise County Republican Committee issued the following announcement on June 3
Thanks to its innovative efforts to improve health and wellness, Palominas Elementary School District has received special recognition.
The district has been presented with this year’s Cochise County Health and Wellness Award for not only developing and expanding their health and wellness policy, but also the policies at Palominas, Coronado, and Valley View Schools.
“Palominas has gone steps beyond in improving school health and wellness through their school lunch program, students and faculty health initiatives on each campus, and outreach to the communities,” said Cochise County School Superintendent Jacqui Clay.
The award was first launched in the 2018-2019 school year by the Superintendent’s Office, in partnership with the UArizona Cochise County Cooperative Extension (Building Healthy Communities and SNAP-Ed programs) and the Cochise County Health Department.
Through this partnership, protocols have been established to easily identify important, base components of school health policies that individual schools can build upon to meet their own community needs. This document also includes unique initiative ideas that have already been occurring in schools around the county.
Clay said she was delighted with the hard work and results of Palominas Elementary School District.
“A deep thank you to Superintendent Rosalik, Mrs. Herrera, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Roark, Mr. Nieuwenhuis, Mrs. Woodman, students, parents and community members for their energy, focus, and effort to strengthen the health and wellness of Cochise County,” she added.
