FOIA Request to Cochise County Recorder Office Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
SE Arizona News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a request under the Arizona Public Records Law § 39.101 et seq. The request was made for records detailing the list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The requested information includes the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction, and party affiliation. Additionally, we have asked for all contact information available for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Cochise County Recorder Office regarding this request.
