On Tuesday July 19, 2022 a storm cell crossed over Cochise County causing significant damage to property northeast of Douglas. Roads were closed including Highway 191 from Glenn to BDI due to more than 70 power poles being down resulting in power disruption to at least 331 customers of APS.
Cochise County Emergency Services responded to the area this morning along with Sheriff's Office command staff to view some of the damage, and the destruction was evident in a majority of the neighborhood and surrounding areas.
APS responded with a water/ice truck which was parked at the Douglas Visitor Center for those needing water and ice to have access to this resource.
Sheriff Office personnel returned to the area this afternoon/evening and began the process of welfare checks on residents in the area and with the assistance of the Sheriff's Assist Team, water was transported to those in need as the lack of electricity shut down the pumps for water wells leaving homeowners without power or water.
Additional resources are being put into place early tomorrow that includes Red Cross, DEMA, Cochise County Emergency Services, and National Weather Service personnel on site for evaluation and assessment of damage as well as human needs.
There is another storm cell in the area this evening and we encourage everyone to pay close attention to your loved ones, your pets, your homes, and be proactive in Battening Down the Hatches!
Stay safe out there!
