Arizona State Rep. Gail Griffin (R-Hereford) said today that Gov. Katie Hobbs’ (D-Ariz.) budget proposal fails to meet the House GOP’s proposals on water security and housing supply.
“With Governor Hobbs’ latest proposal, it seems the Governor is more interested in building new homes for fish and birds than building new homes for hard-working Arizonans,” Griffin, chairman of the House Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee, said in a statement. “Nothing in the Governor’s budget does anything to increase the critical supply of for-sale housing or support the American Dream of home ownership.”
“Arizona House Republicans are committed to advancing fiscally responsible solutions that address our critical housing and water supply issues, preserve the American Dream, and unleash economic prosperity in our state while protecting our individual rights and liberties,” Griffin said. “We will continue to put the interests of Arizona citizens first—and this will be reflected in our ongoing budget negotiations and proposals.”
Griffin said the governor’s budget “allocates zero dollars toward long-term water augmentation, rural water supply development, water conservation, or groundwater recharge projects.”
The House GOP 2025 Majority Plan, released last week, includes a call to “secure Arizona’s water resources for future needs.”
The plan also says the House GOP will “reform permitting processes and counter excessive regulation that impedes development,” as well as “protect private property rights and the economic use of land and resources.”
Griffin was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 1997 and has served multiple terms in both the House and Senate. She currently represents District 19 and was re-elected in the general election on November 8, 2022. Griffin serves as Chair of the House Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee.
Griffin has a background in real estate and has been active in public service, focusing on issues such as water resources, rural development, and land management. She resides in Hereford, Arizona.
