City of Maricopa issued the following announcement on Aug. 10.
The very first Wild Horses Arts Initiative project was met with great excitement which is why the Cultural Affairs and Arts Advisory Committee (CAAAC) in partnership with the City of Maricopa would like to extend from the success of its predecessor and announce the Maricopa Wild Horses – Arts Initiative Round Two. This cultural project is a continuation from the previous, designed to place additional large horse sculptures in public places throughout Maricopa. The heavy-duty fiberglass sculptures will be 51” tall and 84” long from nose to tail and decorated by artist submissions selected by the CAAAC.
Sponsorships for the sculptures are $5,000, which includes a $1,000 honorarium provided to the artist and recognition of the sponsor on the sculpture itself. Sponsors may commission their own artist to individualize a horse or may choose from one of the many artists expected to submit proposals. The horse may be painted, sculpted and transformed anyway the sponsor and artist see fit following the guidelines outlined for the initiative.
The application deadline for all artist submissions is Tuesday, October 7, 2021. The deadline for the completion of the horse sculptures is January 24, 2022.
