Pinal County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Aug. 18.
“A perfect stranger bought our lunch. The man made a point to tell us that he didn’t know how else to express his support and appreciation, so that simple gesture would have to do. This isn’t rare for Stewart. Just the other day while working at QCHS a student handed him a cookie, Stewart said “Are you sure you don’t want it?” And the kid said “No, I bought it for you”.
I often wear the weight of the world against my husband. I let myself sit with the anxiety, the judgement, the preconceived notions and feel the pressure. I read the comments, see the news, and listen to the stories. I cringe thinking about what he’s up against. I’ve often said to him, it just seems like everyone hates cops. But he’s always quick to tell me how he doesn’t feel the same way. He feels the handshakes, hears the thank you’s.
He hears the sincerity in a strangers voice when they express their gratitude. He’s not swayed by the masses against him. He is rooted in these kind strangers who give him hope almost daily. So while I may not see it, it honestly doesn’t matter because he FEELS it. THANK YOU to everyone who’s ever thanked an officer, bought their lunch or a treat, smiled and shook their hand, you and so many others give our officers hope. It’s not some big grand gesture but the collection of all the small ones that keep our men and women with their heads up. Thank you, thank you, thank you! "
