City of Sierra Vista issued the following announcement on Nov. 29.
The Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force made three DUI arrests during a saturation detail conducted in the Sierra Vista area on Wednesday, Nov. 24, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The detail was performed by the Sierra Vista Police Department, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Bisbee Police Department, and Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. The detail resulted in the following: 65 traffic stops or contacts, 42 warnings or repair orders, three miscellaneous civil citations, five civil speed citations, one criminal speed citation, two seatbelt citations, one misdemeanor warrant arrest, one felony weapons misconduct/drug paraphernalia arrest, and three DUI arrests. Two traffic stops conducted during the detail led to contact with undocumented migrants.
Two of the three DUI arrests were misdemeanors, while the third DUI arrest was aggravated, which is a felony. All three DUI arrests were drug-related and required blood draws.
The Sierra Vista Police Department also participated in the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Mandatory Holiday Reporting Period Program by reporting miscellaneous traffic stats from Nov. 24 through Nov. 27, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The following stats were recorded: 110 traffic stops or contacts, 77 warnings or repair orders, three civil speed citations, 10 miscellaneous civil citations, three miscellaneous criminal misdemeanor arrests, one drug-related misdemeanor DUI arrest, and one drug-related aggravated DUI arrest. The drug-related DUI arrests required blood draws.
With the continuous support from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force reminds drivers that if you choose to drive hammered, you will get nailed. Get a designated driver, not a DUI!
