At Wednesday’s council meeting, Mayor and Council accepted three grants benefiting the Douglas Police Department. The application submissions for the grants came in response to several solicitations from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) for the FY 2023 grant cycle.
The Douglas Police Department (DPD) has been selected to receive grant funding from GOHS for Occupant Protection Enforcement in the amount of $25,000. The grant will be allocated toward personnel overtime. Using the funding, officers will participate in enforcement details during holidays and other planned dates.
In addition, the DPD was awarded a grant totaling $22,000 for DUI Enforcement. The proposals solicited for consideration from GOHS came under the Federal 405d Plan. DPD prepared and submitted a proposal to seek funding for Personnel Overtime for DUI enforcement under this program. The grant will serve to raise traffic safety awareness within Douglas and surrounding areas.
Further, DPD received an additional grant award for Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Enforcement and related materials and supplies in the amount of $7,427. The grant is funded through GOHS’s Federal 402-PS Plan. The submitted proposal will enhance the police department’s efforts to focus on specific traffic related concerns regarding pedestrian and bicycle safety.
Mayor and Council congratulated DPD for being selected for the grants and thanked Sgt. David Acosta for preparing the proposals.
