Cochise County Recorder Alerts Voters to Mailing Error for AMA Proposition

The Cochise County Recorder’s Office is aware of a mailing error affecting 11 precincts and 550 early voters for the Active Management Area Propositions.

Who is affected?

For the Willcox AMA Proposition 420, 311 early voters received an incorrect ballot style. In Douglas, AMA Proposition 422, 239 early voters received an incorrect ballot style.

What is the solution?

A post card will be mailed to all the voters affected along with a corrected replacement ballot.  Affected individuals who have not yet voted may destroy the incorrect original ballot upon receipt of the replacement ballot. Anyone affected who has already mailed in their early ballot should contact the Cochise County Recorder’s office at 520-432-8350 to verify next steps.

Why did this happen?

The Recorder’s Office and the Arizona Secretary of State’s office discovered the problem on Friday, October 14. The two offices worked together to determine that the problem occurred when assigning voters to the proposed Active Management Area. Some voters were not properly assigned to the proposed AMA while others were incorrectly identified as being eligible to vote on the AMA.

How is it fixed?

The Recorder’s Office and the Secretary of State’s Office worked to identify the impacted voters and have properly assigned voters who are eligible to vote on the AMA propositions.

What about Election Day voting?

Voters on Election Day will receive the correct ballot because they have now been properly assigned.

How will my ballot be counted correctly?

The Recorder’s Office is isolating any affected ballots when they are received, and none will be sent to the Elections Department for tabulation. While some voters are receiving replacement ballots, only one ballot will be counted. If a voter returns the replacement ballot, their original ballot will be void and not tabulated. If a voter returns the first ballot but not the replacement ballot by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, all contests on which that voter is eligible to vote will be tabulated.

How can I confirm my ballot was counted?

Voters can verify their ballot was counted at arizona.vote.

Please contact the Cochise County Recorder’s office at 520-432-8350 or email at recorder@cochise.az.gov, for any additional information.
