Cochise College celebrated the 2022 Practical Nurses and Certified Nurse Assistants at the Sierra Vista Campus on Thursday, Dec. 22.
Family and friends cheered as the students walked into the Student Union and across the stage to receive their certificates and pins.
Marthaelisa Leon, an LPN graduate, said, “I’m forever grateful for my parents, friends, and BTS for motivating me.”
Monique Ybarra added, “Thank you to everyone that supported me and encouraged me.”
The tradition of nursing pinning originated in the 1860s at the Nightingale School of Nursing in London. The pin symbolizes the history of the nursing program, and it is unique to each nursing school, including Cochise College. The pin is a “mark of character as an achievement” and identifies nurses who were educated to serve the health needs of society.
The Practical Nursing Certificate provides knowledge and skills to prepare students in nursing care for patients of all ages across all cultures. The Nursing Assistant Certificate takes only one semester to complete and prepare students on specific patient-care skills, including nursing processes in the basic physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of all patients, with particular emphasis on the geriatric population.
